5 Days Rwanda Safari in Akagera and Nyungwe National Park Safari
This 5 days Rwanda Safari tour in Akagera and Nyungwe National parks offers a true savanna safari and rain forest experience with wide arrange of activities.
African big five, namely; Lion, leopard, Rhino, Buffalo, Elephants, this is as a result of the introduction of lions and a rhinos that had extinct because of human and wildlife conflicts and poaching respectively in Akagera National Park.
Other animals to see include, Giraffe, impalas, Elands, Hippopotamus, waterbucks, warthogs, bush bucks, sitatunga, different species of monkeys and variety of birdlife, like; Abyssinian roller, cinnamon bee eater, African fish eagles, malachite, pied, giant king fisher’s, just to mention but a few.
The tour also includes a Chimpanzee tracking expedition in the largest rain-forest in Rwanda, Nyungwe and a Canopy walk experience.
Full Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival, City tour, Drive to Akagera National Park
Our driver guide will be glad to receive you at the Airport, hotel or a place of your convenience, giving you a brief about the tour before guiding you through the city{ Kigali} visiting all the key and historical places.
Settle for lunch and later enjoy the smooth drive to Akagera, arriving in the early afternoon chances for sunset game drive.
Day 2: Morning Game drive and afternoon boat safari
A sun rise game drive through different tracks of the park opening more chances of seeing the shy animals before hiding in thickets.
Animals to look out for include; zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, elands, impala among others the time of this game drive will depend on your wish provided you had a good breakfast and some snacks with you.
We return to the lodge for hot lunch before boat safari on Lake Ihema, where you are able to have a closer visibility of hippopotamus, crocodiles and many water birds like the kingfishers, papyrus genolek, Caruthers’s cist cola, and the famous African fish eagles, cormorants, among others.
Day 3: Transfer Nyungwe forest National Park
After breakfast, enjoy the last game drive in Akagera national park, still catching up with the amazing landscape alongside wildlife. Stop for a hot meal before driving to Nyungwe forest national park.

Day 4: Early morning departure for Chimpanzee tracking
After an early breakfast, we assemble at the park offices for briefing and grouping, it’s here where we pick the ranger guide who will lead you into the forest for the excursion.
Chimp tracking can be a little tough but very exciting when you meet the close cousins. Equipped with rain gears, enough drinking water and some snacks making the exercise smooth.
Upon meeting the chimpanzee you will have a complete hour with them. Return to the lodge after tracking.
Day 5: Canopy walk/Columbus monkey tracking and return to Kigali
After a sunrise breakfast, we drive to Winka visitor center for the adventurous walk above Nyungwe forest.
The canopy lies 50m above the forest and over 200m walk way that gives you a fresh air and magical sightings of the forest, different primate species are also seen during this walk, like the black and white colobus, mountain monkey.
After the walk, enjoy the beautiful scenic drive through the forest and tea plantations on the edge of the forest, stop in Huye for a hot lunch and later proceed to Kigali for your flight back home.

What You need during Chimpanzee Trekking
- Water: Chimpanzee trekking can be very tiresome and you need to refill your tank as the trek goes on. It is advisable to park a few water filtration tablets before you come for the trek.
- Boots: You will need good waterproof comfortable shoes. Some times it rains during the trek, so skid proof shoes can come in handy.
- Rain Jacket: You are advised to carry rain jacket because if rains very often in Nyungwe Forest
- Snack: You can carry a light snack to give you some energy during the walk in the forest
- Trouser and Shirts The forest in Volcanoes NP is covered with thick undergrowth, therefore light trousers and long sleeved shirts are advised.
- Socks: You will have to tuck in the trousers into the socks to avoid insects crawling inside.
- Gloves: You will need Gardening gloves because you will be grabbing tree branches, leaves, name it, and some can be thorny.
- Camera: Carry a good camera to capture this lifetime experience
